On October 13, 2016, BYD's straddle monorail - "cloud rail", which took five years and invested 5 billion yuan, held a global launch ceremony in Shenzhen, indicating that BYD will officially enter the fourth largest industry - light rail (the top three industries are it, automobile and new energy).
BYD "cloud rail" is a medium and small capacity rail transit, which is driven by pure electric power and supported by a single track beam, with the car body sitting on it. It is understood that "cloud rail" has many advantages, including low cost (only 1 / 5 of the subway), short construction period (only 1 / 3 of the subway), strong climbing ability, small turning radius, strong terrain adaptability (passing through urban buildings), low driving noise, independent right of way and good landscape. In addition, the "cloud rail" can transport 10000-30000 people / hour in one direction and the maximum speed can reach 80km / h. It will become an important means of transportation to solve the "last kilometer" of everyone's travel in the future.
We have learned that, unlike the high-speed railway, BYD cloud rail hopes to become a short-range transportation tool using the upper space. In the future, it will realize the dislocation development with the existing subway, bus and other transportation tools, complement and coordinate with each other, and jointly solve the problem of urban congestion.
According to Wang Chuanfu, chairman and President of BYD, Shantou has signed an agreement with BYD, which will become the first city to lay a "cloud track", with a mileage of 250 kilometers. In addition, nearly 20 cities have reached preliminary agreements with BYD, and more cities will appear to carry out "cloud track" in the future.
