Rail Grinding
Mar 27, 2021| Brief introduction of rail grinding
Rail grinding is an important part of line repair work and an effective means of rail disease prevention and treatment. Grinding can improve the wheel rail contact relationship, prevent and delay the occurrence of rail diseases such as contact fatigue, abrasion and corrugation, repair or reduce rail surface diseases, reduce the risk of rail fracture, and extend the service life and maintenance cycle of rail equipment.
The rail surface diseases that can be solved by grinding mainly include fatigue crack, peeling off block, corrugation, abrasion, abrasion, fat edge, uneven wear, poor light band, etc. In addition, rail grinding can also be used to solve the problem that the straightness of the end 2m of the 100 meter fixed length rail in some sections of the main line exceeds the standard (low collapse in most cases).
Classification of rail grinding
Rail grinding mainly includes line rail grinding and turnout rail grinding, which is divided into pre grinding, preventive grinding and repair grinding.
1. Pre grinding
Rail (including turnout area rail) pre grinding is the grinding of the new rail laid on the track. The purpose is to remove the decarburized layer on the rail surface, eliminate the surface defects of rail in the process of production, welding, transportation and construction, correct the rail head profile, and improve the smoothness of welded joints.
2. Preventive grinding
Preventive grinding is the periodic grinding of rail (including rail in turnout area). The purpose is to repair the rail head profile, eliminate the micro cracks and other shallow diseases on the rail surface, improve the wheel rail interaction, and prevent the occurrence and development of rail fatigue cracks, corrugation and other diseases.
3. Repair grinding
Repair grinding is the grinding of the rail (including the rail in the turnout area) which has been damaged. The purpose is to correct the rail head profile, eliminate or slow down the rolling contact fatigue crack, wave (ripple) wear and abrasion and other diseases.
