The former DB “Görlitz” passenger coaches were acquired through Lückemeier Transport & Logistik, which then refurbishes them for use in Tanzania. They are suitable for operating at a speed of 160 km/h and are equipped with air conditioning, video surveillance systems, and information screens.

It is expected that the first coaches will begin operating on the country’s standard gauge railway in July. Initially, they will be hauled by four Class 1014 electric locomotives previously purchased by TRC from the Turkish construction company Yapı Merkezi.

TRC has ordered 60 new passenger coaches from the South Korean company Sung Shin Rolling Stock Technology, 14 of which have already been delivered. In July 2021, the operator signed a contract worth $297 million with Hyundai Rotem for the supply of 17 electric locomotives with Škoda electrical equipment, as well as 80 EMUs. CRRC is supplying 1,430 freight wagons of various types.
