type of train brake shoe
Nov 20, 2023| Brake shoe according to the material can be divided into cast iron brake shoe and synthetic brake shoe two categories.
1. Cast iron brake shoe. It has been used for more than 100 years, and the cast iron shoe is divided into gray cast iron shoe, medium phosphorus shoe, high phosphorus iron shoe and alloy cast iron shoe. Early gray cast iron brake shoe, phosphorus content of about 0.2%, friction coefficient with the increase of speed and rapid decline, wear resistance is also very poor. Switching to medium phosphorus brake shoe (phosphorus content 0.7% ~ 1.0%) can improve performance, but it is easy to spark and cause fire during braking. High phosphorus brake shoe (phosphorus content of more than 2.5%) produces less sparks, is relatively safe, but the quality is brittle and easy to break, and the steel tile back must be added when casting. The use of high phosphorus cast iron brake shoes is becoming more and more common.
2, synthetic brake shoe. Also known as non-metal brake shoe, is made of asbestos and other fillers mixed with resin or rubber as adhesive after hot pressing. Synthetic brake shoe, according to its basic composition, is divided into synthetic resin base brake shoe and rubber base brake shoe. According to the friction coefficient, it can be divided into high friction coefficient synthetic brake shoe and low friction coefficient synthetic brake shoe. Synthetic brake shoes should also be reinforced with steel backs. If the brake shoe is pressed into a sheet for disc forming, it is called brake plate.
